چکیده

Dynamic Load Balancing is an important system function destined to distribute workload among available processors to speed up the execution of computer programs whose workload varies at run-time in unpredictable ways. The non-uniform computation and communication requirements may bog down a parallel computer if no e cient load distribution is e ected. A novel distributed algorithm for load balancing is proposed and is based on local Rate of Change observations rather than on global absolute load numbers. The strategy is discussed and analysed by means of experimental simulation.

Rate of Change Load Balancing in Distributed and Parallel Systems

Dynamic Load Balancing is an important system function destined to distribute workload among available processors to improve throughput and/or execution times of parallel computer programs either uniform or non-uniform (jobs whose workload varies at run-time in unpredictable ways). Non-uniform computation and communication requirements may bog down a parallel computer if no efficient load distr...

Load Balancing Approaches for Web Servers: A Survey of Recent Trends

Numerous works has been done for load balancing of web servers in grid environment. Reason behinds popularity of grid environment is to allow accessing distributed resources which are located at remote locations. For effective utilization, load must be balanced among all resources. Importance of load balancing is discussed by distinguishing the system between without load balancing and with loa...

Simulation and Prototyping of a Coherent Distributed Dynamic Load Balancing Algorithm

This paper presents the performance evaluation of a coherent distributed dynamic load balancing algorithm called the DGP (Decentralised Global Plans) algorithm. The performance evaluation is underpinned by a research methodology integrating a simulation-based performance evaluation with a prototype-based performance evaluation. The DGP algorithm addresses the issue of coherence and coordination...

Load Distribution for Heterogeneous and Non-Dedicated Clusters Based on Dynamic Monitoring and Differentiated Services

This paper discusses a load distribution strategy for distributed object computing systems. Our strategy relies on dynamic monitoring and application profiling to manage workloads and improve the system performance of nondedicated clusters of heterogeneous computers. Application profiling and the combined use of load balancing mechanisms have proven useful to deal with services with a different...

University of Leeds SCHOOL OF COMPUTER STUDIES RESEARCH REPORT SERIES Report 94.21 A Global Plan Policy for Coherent Cooperation in Distributed Dynamic Load Balancing Algorithms

Distributed-controlled dynamic load balancing algorithms are known to have several advantages over centralised algorithms such as scalability, and fault tolerance. Distributed implies that the control is decentralised and that a copy of the algorithm (called a scheduler) is replicated on each host of the network. However, distributed control also contributes to the lack of global goals and lack...
